Emily Littler is my pen name. I decided to write under a pen name for these historical novels because they are such a different genre from the fantasy I write under my real name. Emily Littler was my maternal grandmother’s name. I’m sure she wouldn’t have minded me using it.
I am not going to start to say how I’ve always written stories, or told stories, because so many other authors do that. I think in order to boost their credentials. I’ve done that in the past, but it’s not very interesting, really, is it?
What you want to know is what I’m like.
Well, I’m now getting on a bit. I ought to have started writing long ago, but life has a habit of getting in the way. I married and brought up two children, then went back to work (teaching). During the school holidays it was take the kids out on trips and do preparation for next term and exam writing and/or marking.
After the children grew up, I started doing things I’d not done for years, like painting, crochet, cross-stitch, tatting (a dying craft, I think) and such like and so it was only in the last few years that I decided to write novels.
Writing historical novels is so much harder that writing fantasy. There is some research needed for fantasy, but so much more for historical. I apologise to any historians that read them for the inevitable mistakes.
